I asked my Allstate guy for life insurance. He referred me to "his guy".

"His guy" asked me a bunch of questions and of course, I mentioned that I have CF. He didn't seemed phased by that. But then after 2 weeks of not hearing back from him, I called him and left a message. Then I called back a week later and left another message.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that at least you were dignified with a denial.

A few years ago I tried to get individual life insurance not tied to my job. We went through the application process and the rep was very nice and said with the CF he would need to check and get back to us. Ultimately he responded that his company could/would not insure me. I was not at all surprised. He did mention that he knew of a company that might but the premiums would be huge. Your best bet is is your company has a plan with portability(??) that allows you to pay the premiums even if you leave the company in order to maintain the insurance. I have a couple of these and while not a lot it will at least cover my funeral and some other smaller expenses. The other choice is your local credit union. A lot of these will offer no questions asked policies up to a limited amount if you are a member. The rates are not too bad but you need to read the fine print as some will not cover an illness but are strictly "accidental death" policies.

Join triple A. They usually provide no questions asked life insurance. It may not be much, but it should help. If you have a mortgage, ask about adding a rider to the policy.
