Candida Albicans in lungs

Hi -
I am wondering if anybody else cultures Candida Albicans? If so, is it treated? I read that is it rare for normal people but very common for CF.

It was found in my son (Danny) via bronchoscopy lavage culture on both sides. The doctor did not mention anything other than she was surprised he did not culture bacteria based upon the mucus plugs and inflammation she saw. Last fall Danny was on various anitbiotics for GI problems ... am thinking perhaps this led to an overgrowth of Candida that got into his blood stream ..? I am not sure what to make of it or how significant it is. Danny does still occasionally cough up bloody sputum.

fyi -
Doctors confirmed that my son does not have classic Cystic Fibrosis as he did not have 2 mutations found on a full gene sequencing, but they cannot rule out atypical CF since his lungs are inflammed and he had positive sweat tests. We are going for the Quest deletions and duplications test tomorrow.

Doctors concensus is not to treat unless there are symptoms. BUT one of the members on this forum (hopefully she will see your post) experimented a lot with different natural treatments and i think succeeded in getting rid of it and her pfts went up as a result. try to search "candida" if you are interested.
