Are you under any stress? Sometimes when I'm stressed or worried, I am not exactly in the mood to eat. Please make yourself eat, even though you don't feel like it, because if you have CF, there are good chances that you aren't obese so try to eat anyway. Do I sound like a mom or big sister??Take care, I'm sure this feeling of not feeling like eating will pass!

Rami, I can go for days and hardly eat at all and feel fine. But the problem was that I'll loose a pound or two and when my apitite comes back I have a hard time gaining it back. i think we all go through these hunger cycles from time to time and it's totally normal. What I do when I don't want to eat alot is treat myself to my favorite restarunts and snacks to stimulate my appitite. Try to excite yourself about food and if it doesn't work eat energy bars and fruit so you have something in your stomach. Debbie22 yr old w/ CF

I eat pot brownies and other snacks to make myself hungry. It also eases my joint pains, is an anti-inflamatory, helps me sleep better, and eases any other aches and pains I have. Smoking it isn't the best idea w/ CF because the smoke can irritate your lungs.

I used to smoke pot to try to help my appetite, but even that didn't work a lot of times (and since I would *immediately* get congested, I stopped doing that ). What I do in these times is drink a protein drink that I mix up (by GenSoy)...this way I'm getting some calories in (from both, carbs and protein). I seem to have a much easier time getting a drink down in times like this, than forcing the food. My appetite was so bad that after a couple bites of something, I felt gaggy - the only way I could explain it was to compare it to someone who was pregnant and how they'd get turned off by food or the smell of it.Hey, I have always heard of the pot brownies, and wondered if they actually worked the same as if one had smoked it???

Eating pot brownies and other pot foods is just as effective, it just takes longer to feel high. Off the record I've told my doc that I do that and they said that whatever works is fine. There are no findings that pot reacts with antibiotics, and THC itself has no adverse effects on the body. It is not physically addictive. I wouldn't suggest that you just dive into a plate of brownies because the amount of THC is higher than if you took a hit off a pipe. You have to take a few bites and wait and see how you feel. Wait a long time. It takes some experimenting to figure out how much to eat. Be especially careful if you didn't make the goodies yourself because you don't know how strong they are. A brownie can park you on the couch for the day if you're not careful. THC is fat and alcohol soluble, so it can be used as a butter or oil (ideal for cooking) or in a tincture (then you swallow a spoonful or two).

I often lose my appetite. Lots of things can cause this. Stress, infections. When you're chest is congested it can give you a kind of bloated sensation and take away your appetite. In these periods, I tend to live off soup and suppliment drinks until my appetite returns.

Hi, Loosing my appetite is always the first sign of me getting sick. Whenever I lose my appetite I make a dr's appointment right away, and then I can usually get some antibitocs and knock out the infection before it gets to the point of needing IV's. You might want to see your dr. just to make sure your lung functions aren't down! also, until i get my appetite back, i just try to make sure that everything i can manage to eat is really high in fat, like milkshakes. good luck!~jenny21 yr old w/ cf

It gives you the munchies. THC ( the active agent in pot) stimulates appetite, and is an anti-inflamatory. It feels like being really relaxed. It can make you sleepy and giggle-y. It produces a dryness in the mouth. It is used for AIDS and cancer patients to reduce their pain and keep their appetite up. Glaucoma is also treated with it to reduce the swelling of the eyes, MS patients use it too. It is also an awsome anti-nausea agent, and kemo patients use it for that.

Well Debbie thanks for your concern, I 've taken metronidazole , and it helped me out. However, as soon as i stopped it I lost my appetite again. I think i'm swallowing too much sputum at night , or it may be the Cipro along with Bactrim who are causing the troubles. Rami 21w/CF

I've also had this happen to me. Every one or two weeks I would go through a few days of poor appetite just like you described. When I did eat, I would always get really bad stomach pain. At first, I thought it was just my stomach being sick and tired of having food forced into it twenty times a day. I told my stomach that my doctor makes me do that, but it would not listen. Really, I did not think anything of it until I mentioned it to my doctor. It turned out I had gastro intestinal.... Well, it was a really long and complicated name that I did not take the time to memorize. Anyway, what was going on is I was constipated. Chronically constipated, which makes me feel absoutely wonderful about myself and not embarrassed at all. Anyway, I have to take a mild laxative every night and that has improved my appetite. It is common with CF adults, so you may or may not be going through the same thing.Jarod22 with CF

HI I AM 21 YEARS OLD I KNOW SOME THINGS ABOUT CF BUT NOT EVERYTHING, MY BEST FRIEND HAS IT. I WAS JUST WONDERING IF PEOPLE COULD GIVE ME IDEAS OF HOW TO HELP HER BE MORE HEALTHY. SHE HARDLY EVER HAS AN APPETITE AND GETS ANGRY BECAUSE SHE CANT GAIN WEIGHT. WE LIVE TOGETHER AND GO TO SCHOOL 15 HOURS AWAY FROM HOME SO SOMETIMES WHEN WE GO HOME TO VISIT SHE HAS DO THE HOSPITAL VISITS FOR 2 WEEKS AND THAT TOO MAKES HER MAD. I TRY TO MAKE MEALS AND STUFF TO TRY TO HELP HER TO EAT. BUT I AM GETTING WORRIED BECAUSE SHE USED TO NEVER EVER COUGH OR HAVE TO DO HER TOBI AND NOW SHE HAS TO DO IT 2 TIMES A DAY AND COUGHS LIKE CRAZY ALL THE TIME. I ALSO TRY TO POUND ON HER BACK AT LEAST EVERY OTHER NIGHT BUT SOMETIMES WERE JUST CRAZY BUSY FROM SCHOOL AND ALL. I JUST WANT HER TO BE HEALTHIER HAPPIER AND MORE ENTERGETIC. SHE ALSO IS VERY SELF CONSCIOUS ABOUT HAVING IT AND ALWAYS WANTS IT TO BE A BIG SECRET. WE ARE REALLY CLOSE BUT I SOMETIMES GET FRUSTRATED WITH HER BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE SHES NOT TAKING CARE OF HERSELF......I DONT REALLY KNOW WHAT IM ASKING HER...JUST SOME GENERAL FEED BACK I GUESS...IF SHE KNEW I WAS EVEN AT THIS WEBSITE TYPING THIS SHE WOULD PROBABLY BE SO MAD. THANKSKATE

kate, the coughing is good for us cfers, we need to clear our lungs as best we can, if she just started doing tobi or pulmazyme then she will be coughing more then normal due to the thinner then normal mucus, again this is a good thing. Its great to hear your concern and about the eating thing, in all honesty I feel my best after a busy day, the days just sitting at home doing nothing, i dont seem to get as hungry. So just have a normal friendship with her, maybe try to get her involved with exercise and the chest therapy you were doing for her was great as well, try maybe making it a time you can kick back together and watch tv while your doing the cpt so she knows your not there as her nurse but as a friend. And if she gets angry alot i think maybe you should tell her you found this site and let her express how she feels to some people that would understand, im sure it would make her feel better, good luck and god bless...
