Ok, so I got a little cold, no big deal. However my throat got irritated and I started coughing and lost my voice. My throat is swollen and raw, which isn't helping things. Does anyone know of a good home remedy for laryngitis?

I don't have CF, so I don't know if this advice will work for you. I got laryngitis several times when I was teaching. The biggest help to me was going to the doctor. I may have gotten an antibiotic (something you may not want to do as it may develop resistance depending on the frequency of antibiotics you take). I know for sure that I got a steroid prescription and that helped me considerably. Since speaking was my livelihood, I was desperate to get my voice back but other than the steroids, nothing helped too much. The best is just to relax and not strain your voice (stop talking). Drink warm liquids and wait a couple of days. You won't sound the same for almost a week. Good luck!

Jena

Just curious, how come you are here if you don't have CF? Do you know someone with it? Just wondering.

I am touched that my name is recognized - thanks Coll for making me feel special (hey - it's the little things in life). She hit the nail on the head, my 4 year old son has cf. I have personal experience with laryngitis, but I don't have cf myself. I wish you luck and patience with your voice.

Not sure if this is will help with laryngitis but it might help ease your throat, try a cup of hot/warm tea with honey and a drop of real lemon juice. I drink that sometimes when TOBI and coughing irritates my throat.

I know i lost my voice when they put me on biaxin. It also made me very sensitive to sunlight. Just a thought if you have ever been put on it.

Thanks for the advice everyone. In the end I called my doctor who gave me a cough suppressent (my cough was dry so no worries about mucus building up). I also talked her into a heavy duty anti-inflamatory and mild pain killer so I could stand to eat. The antiinflamatory helped the most I think. My throat was so constricted that it felt like an asthma attack that wouldn't stop.
