I am a 37 yr old female with CF. My question is: Would it b ok for someone with CF to omit carbs outta their diet? I am asking this bc I have no energy and I am always tired, I know this heat wave that we're going through doesn't help (I'm in Ontario), but would it help or just make things worse? What would the pros and cons b of omitting carbs from a CF persons diet????

Mind you, this is just my opinion... I hate that diet. I think it's really stupid. If you want to *cut down* on carbs, so be it. I won't tell you not to. I don't think that's even worth it. But that's just me. To *omit* carbs completely? Not a good idea. Carbs have a lot of good things in them that you need, and omitting anything completely out of a CFers' diet is not going to help. Specifically if you have trouble keeping or gaining weight.

I don't have CF, so I'm not sure how it would affect that in particular, but I did try this twice as a last minute weight loss thing (both times for events that I wanted to be a little slimmer for). Anyway, the first time I did it for four days before I had to break it off and have cereal. I was sick to my stomach (literally) and dizzy almost constantly. Stupidly, I tried again a couple of months later thinking maybe it was just a flu I had before, and the same thing happened, only this time I only lasted a little over two days. I lost several pounds each time, but clearly it must have been water weight considering it was only a few days.

My sister has done this before for special occassions and lost weight without getting sick, so it must affect different people differently. I wouldn't bother though. Carbs give you energy, and you will likely feel listless and spent by doing this.

Same here, I tried the south beach diet and I thought I was going to die. I don't have CF and can only imagine how it would affect you. I strongly recommend you don't cut carbs. Talk to your CF nutritionist about what diet will work for you. Good Luck!

Just like anything else I believe carbs need to be in moderation. Everyone needs a certain amount of carbs to function because they supply energy. Of course too many is not good especially when dealing with diabetes or over weight issues. I dont believe in any of these "fad" diets whether they be the "South Beach", North Beach or Miami Beach (ha-ha). Moderation & exercise. Its the same for those of us trying to put weight on. "Binging" on high calorie foods doesnt help in the long run. As Dr. Phil would say.....its a lifestyle!<img src="i/expressions/light.gif" border="0">

Any ideas on how and or what to do to loose the extra pounds? I want to be back at 127 lbs like i have always been up until 5 months ago.

I lost 40 lbs in 4 months a few years ago. It took a lot of work, and sucked, but it worked. And I've kept most of it off since then. All I did was exercise a lot, as much as I could handle. Not only will it help you lose weight, but it's good for the lungs. And also, I watched what I ate. I didn't cut anything out. I just ate less garbage (stuff like ice cream, cheetos, chocolate, etc), and less often (though I still ate several meals every day). I was living on flavored water, and stuff like pretzels, skinless boneless chicken breasts, lots of veggies, salads, stuff like that.

I would try to cut out the junk food carbs and remember to keep the healthy carbs like ones from fruit in your diet. Depriving your body of too many carbs is just gonna make you more tired. Excercising and a good diet are the best ways to lose that unwanted weight. Excercising at the rate your body can handle is a good way to get more energey and relieve stress. Remember to eat little healthy snacks like vegitables often to keep your metabolism working so that you keep burning calories. Don't forget to drink lots of water....don't waste your calories on drinks when you can be drinking water.

That is just my two cents....

ohhh...when i said "good diet" I was not referring to any sort of a diet that is out there right now...I meant low fat lower carb...healthy eating....Good Luck and I hope I gave you a bit of help.
