Care Centers

We ended up at Johns Hopkins because the baby was admited there. We live between Children's National Medical Center and Johns Hopkins. Which is the better center? It's rather hard to "shop around" for CF centers. People tend to go with the only one in their area, and have to rely on one or two doctors' opinions about CF care although different CF doctors treat CF differently. Has anyone had experience at Children's?

I don't have any personal experience. I'd think that the personal interaction would count for a ton!! BUT, on the CFF website, you can go to the carecenters and compare center data -- so it will tell you lots of information about the center like average days in-patient, average pulmonary function, average number of visits per year, nutritional averages... I think there is also a stat for percentage of patients that culture b. cepacia. I don't remember what they post there exactly, though I've seen all the center data for our center and its a LOT of information. It may be helpful in making your decision.

i love the ped's cf docs at hopkins. we switched from wvu university childrens center to hopkins last year. i think they are incredibly knowledgeble and treat you as a person (not a number or patient). dr. mogayzel is the head of the cf clinic and he is very easy to talk to or email. if you have any specific questions i would be more than happy to try to answer them. unfortunatley i dont have any experience with childrens national. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> ricki
