I am staying at home with my son. I'm 2.5 years post double lung and liver and my doc told me that it wouldn't be wise for me to go back to work and have to put my son in Daycare because he would bring too many germs home to me with all the babies and toddlers that would be there. Also, a few months after the transplants, I had my colon removed and now have dumping syndrome (I'm in the bathroom a lot throughout the day) and it wouldn't be easy to keep a job with having to use the restroom a lot.

I think that once my son starts Kindergarten in 2011 I might try to go back to work, but we'll see.

I am an insurance underwriter which is just a great post transplant career. It's demanding but not so grueling that it would interfere with my health. I also get out of the office a lot during the day to go on some marketing calls. So it's fun.

I didn't really have a "career" pre transplant. I wanted to teach but did an internship and realized it wasn't for me I don't have the patience. I started working at a Credit Union about 7 months post transplant and am now going back to school to become a pharmacist.

The pharmacy thing is a long ways off but still I am excited about it and have thus far gotten the okay from my doctor in regards to this choice. That being said I know there were several CFers at my center that wanted to pursue nursing and ended up having their program require a letter of medical release from the doc saying it was okay for them to be involved with all the crud they needed to do for the nursing programs. All of them were told no by the doctors at our center. I would just talk to your transplant team about it when the situation presents itself. I would hate to see you set your mind to it only to have something similar to what happened to my friends occur.
