carpet cleaners/steam cleaners

After reading some old posts about carpet and the gross stuff it can keep on it... i've been thinking about purchasing a carpet cleaner as my baby is right at the verge of crawling. Right now, I lay out a clean comforter on the ground for him to play and roll around on when he's not in a playpen... I can't cover the whole house in clean blankets ...also, i'm sure it would benefit the older boys as well, so it is for the whole family. I don't mind spending a couple hundred bucks if it means them getting sick less. i looked in the carpet cleaner aisle and also noticed a steam cleaner for hardwood floors/ tile etc. to use in place of a mop. that was like $80.

Was wondering if anybody has either items, which models they are, and have they noticed a difference in their health since they purchased?

I've read consumer reviews etc, but I thought i'd like to get some input as far as which are the best from you guys.

Thanks!

I can't say anything about the carpet steamer... but I LOVE my Shark steam mop. It is so easy to use and also seems a lot faster. I use it both on my laminate floor and tile. I love it<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
