Cayston nebulizer cleaning

OK, so I'm a bit lazy. For years I've just rinsed my nebulizers in very hot water and set them out to air dry on a clean paper towel. When I got my Cayston kit there was a sterilizing kit included. Wow...I don't see why the Altera is much different than the other nebs I've been using??? Just curious to know how you guys treat your Altera nebulizer?

All nebs should be sterilized between each use. Sterilizing the eFlow-type units (including the Altera) is a little more complicated than regular nebs, since the metal part can't be boiled, so a protocol using the electric steam sterilizers was developed. That's why it is sent out to everyone that starts Cayston.

I started out using the sterlizer after the 3rd dose, but then switched to a substance called Control III that you buy online, mix with water and rinse it around in a container for 5mins then let the water rinse it under the faucet for 5mins, air dry on paper towel. I ckd with my doctor and was told this method was ok to use, in place of the sterlizer. So that is what I personally did. Pat-55/CF
