Cayston

I've had my Cayston for a couple weeks, but have not started it yet b/c I can't figure out how to time the treatments to where they are 4 hours apart...*bangs head against wall* lol

If I do one in the am (5:30am), I'll have to do a treatment at work...I don't get home until 7:00pm and try to be in bed between 9:30 - 10:00pm.

Is it quick enough to do at work? or in the car on my lunch break? And do I just rinse off the neb/aerosol head w/ tap water while at work and sterilize later at home?

thanks <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

It takes under 5 minutes. The main concern is keeping the head piece clean so it does not clog up. Maybe rinse it off good and soak in alcohol until home. The plastic pieces can be rinsed and sanitized when you get home.

I do mine on my lunch hour, its completely silent and takes 2 minutes. I even do it if I am driving to an appointment or lunch on my lunch hour.

Heres How:

I have two heads I do one in the mroning, clean it, leave it at home to dry for night time. The 2nd goes with me for lunch treatment, by time I get home which no matter how late it is I can still fit in a quick treatment the other one is all ready and waiting.

Disclaimer:I've only been doing this a SHORT time so it wont necessarily show that its a bad idea this quick <img src="i/expressions/praying.gif" border="0">

I have a water bottle with a large mouth, I keep it full of water and if I am driving etc I just chuck it in there. If I have a bit more time but cant 'really' clean it I rinse it off and then take the head and keep it either a- in a bottle of water or b-in a dish of alchohol.

They make small dishes that you can take say dressing to work in, they are small enough that the head cant bang and clang around and they have a good seal, this is what I converted to carrying in my neb bag now for alchohol. I also heard some people say a RX med larger bottle----not sure on its leak proofness.

That is my only concern with starting to use Cayston as well. When I am at work, I am typically gone all day. It is almost impossible for me to step away from my desk for a break. Soooo...I'm not sure how I would fit that into my schedule. That's definitely the downside to Cayston is the 3x/day. But I have heard it takes only a very short time to nebulize. And the best part is that it's silent, so you can really almost do it anywhere.

When I am on my Tobramycin month and running late to work, I will do my neb in the car. I just bring a bottle of water to rinse everything off afterwards. As long as I rinse it good, the head doesn't seem to get clogged. If I were having to do that often though, I would keep a container of alcohol in the car for the head.

Thanks for all of your responses!

The treatment is really quick; took me 2 minutes. Takes longer to sterilize than it does to do the treatment, which is kind of a pain. Also took time to pack up the Altera, get meds, etc to bring w/ me to work...I'm hoping to do my mid-day treatment in the car during my lunch break. I remember my nurse saying if I don't have time to sterilize just make sure to rinse the head thoroughly w/ water, so that's my plan for now. Is it best to let it sit in water/alcohol, or does it matter? either way, I will be sure to sterilize when I get home.

I've also been feeling really nauseous since starting Cayston last night. I didn't see nausea as a side effect (although abdominal pain is a side effect), so hopefully it's not related to the Cayston...I may be back on TOBI in 2 months lol
