cayston

Hey guys

I just started Cayston yesterday and every dose I've done has INSTANTLY made me wretch/cough/gag. I can barely get any of it in. It's not that it tastes bad or tickles my throat. It's almost as if my lungs are completely forcing it out the minute it hits them. This happens from beginning to end. I use albuterol before the cayston and it is obviously doing nothing. Has anyone felt this while on cayston? Will I get used to it and be able to tolerate it the more I use it? Could this mean I'm allergic to it (I'm not allergic to any other drugs)?

Thanks.

Yes, it instantly triggered the gag/choke reflex for me and made me sick to my stomach. Like you said, it didn't seem to be the taste or smell, it just immediately churned things up the wrong way when it made its way into my lungs. I know that many people have the side effects with Cayston especially at the beginning of treatment, but this seemed to go beyond that, to the point where it was completely intolerable. Eventually I ended up not using Cayston any longer, the reaction or "side effects" were far too severe and unbearable.

Hmm, I feel like I understand this, but I do tolerate so my symptoms must not be on the same level. I dont really ever feel nauseous from it... but b/c its so strong and so thick of mist, I often start hacking on the first inhale b/c it like is almost too much moisture and feel like, I dont know, drowning kinda b/c its so wet...

I wouldnt say its my lung but my throat/trachea area b/c like I said, your body isnt used to so much moisture anyways...

I would make sure to call your doctor and see if that is 'normal'...

My son could barely tolerate it at first-his description was it was so harsh. It got better -has been about 3 weeks and he thinks he is beginning to tell a difference in how he feels. I will say that he has been more compliant with cayston than anything else. I think because it is so quick. I would stick with it if at all possible.

Same thing with me in the beg. the instant cough on the first inhale, I felt I was coughing more of it out than in but by week 2-3 it went much better, I think I tollerated it good by the time the 28 days passed. Give it time, it may work out in the long run. Pat-55/CF
