Cayston

Hi !

For those of you who have used or are using Cayston, have you found it better than TOBI (for mucoid PA) ? What side effects did you get (same as TOBI : altered voice, bronchospasm, tightness, etc. ?) ? No studies have been done with Cayston for drug interactions ... Should I be worried even if the ingredient in Cayston has been around for a while ? It seems to be a shorter treatment time than other nebbed antibios (2-3 min), even if it's taken 3 times a day. I think I read somewhere that you need the Altera (Pari) with Cayston ... Is that the compressor and the nebulizer ? How long do we need to take Cayston (6-12 months?) ? Has it been proven to work even with the biofilm that is around mucoid PA (TOBI has I think) ?

Like some of you know, I just started TOBI and am having trouble tolerating it so my lung spec. told me about Cayston ...

Yes Cayston takes about 2-3 mins with the Altera. It uses a silent ultrasonic neb that mists faster. I haven't seen any side effects. What do you mean by the ingredient "being around for a while"? I've seen the Tobi be more effective, but the effects can vary by person. Usually the dose is 3x/day for 28 days. They may have you do alternating months, one month on it, one month off. It's designed to fight PA, don't know any more specifics than that.
