Does anyone here live in the central Florida area?  I just moved back to Florida after living in Pennsylvania for a few years.  Last time I was here I was underage, so I will have to see a new doctor and go to a new clinic (adult clinic, not pediatric).  I live in Brevard County, about 40 minutes outside of Orlando.  I assume that I will be going to the clinic in Orlando.<div><br></div><div>Does anyone have any experience with the CF clinic or the CF specialists in central FL?  If so, what doctor would you recommend I contact?</div><div><br></div><div>My pediatric doctor was Dr. Geller and he was great.  I felt comfortable talking to him, something I have not had with any doctor since.  I would like to have a CF doctor who is easy going and does not act snooty or judgmental.  I felt uncomfortable with my doctors in Pa.  I felt patronized, looked down on, and judged.  I don't want it to be the same here. </div><div><br></div><div>So, again, who are the good doctors and who should I avoid?</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks</div>

Hey man, you have two choices, Tampa or Orlando. From the data at the CF foundation, the Tampa hospital seems better. The Orlando hospital has the same stats as up here in Gainesville at UF - but I think my doctors kind of suck. Tampa might be worth the drive:

Tampa General Hospital
Tampa, FL
Appointments: (813) 844-4634
Director(s): Mark Rolfe, M.D.

You have great choices in Orlando and Tampa. I was under Dr. Rolfe's care back in the 80's when I moved to Tampa from Dallas (another great clinic). Dr. Rolfe was thorough and knowledgable back then. I saw him about two years ago, but not actually for care. I moved my care from West Palm Beach to Emory 9 months ago and have been delighted. West Palm Beach is ineffective and would have probably received a failing grade from the foundation a year ago. I understand that they have a new physician now, but the staff is not results oriented. Rule them out and look at Tampa or Orlando. You could even consider revisiting Emory since you had a great experience there. Your health shouldn't be compromised due to a gamble on a CF care center.

Love the Tampa clinic. They have 2 other CF docs in addition to Dr. Rolfe. Dr Rolfe is AMAZING. But nice to have 3 to see etc. The CF nurse is nothing short of spectacular. I could not be more happy with my care because they are proactive, detail oriented, easy going, straight to the point and do tests to make sure they are giving you the right drugs for the right bugs you are growing. I could not be happier with my care there.<br>
