Cepacia

Just resurrecting an old thread as opposed to starting a new one! I understand the concept that bacteria is everywhere and that it's essentially unavoidable to culture various strains...however, given that B. Cepacia only affects approx. 3% of CFers, do any of you who culture positive "know" where you acquired it? Perhaps a question without an answer other than bacteria are everywhere. Just thought I'd ask! I do know that some carriers acquired it from other CFers....how many of you have been exposed to others with CF that cultured cepacia prior to culturing positive yourself?

my first culture was when i was 12 or 13. i'll be 27 this summer.
i don't know my strain-but cepacia doesn't affect me all that much, except for being a probable cause of my vasculitis which is an immune response.

i don't know where i got it from-sure it could have been being admitted in the 10 bed hospital rooms in the 80s before infection control existed-theres a chance it could have been a bug i picked up anywhere, even gardening.

i def haven't knowingly been around bcep patients. and i avoid all cf patients out of responsibility.

my current fev1 is 66%. 2 yrs ago it was 75%. I attribute that to mrsa which i picked up in the past 3 years.
