ohhh cepacia

im also wary of that..

but i have a question too, does cepacia show up on sputum samples which get sent off to the labs? or is special testing required to find cepacia?

PA isn't in the air, just an FYI. Neither is cepacia.

Cepacia can be found in many places.... I'd suggest googling it to find out where

-Fertilizer
-Dormant water

Here is the CFF's info on Cepacia

Just to help ease your mind a little bit (although B. cepacia is a HUGE deal) I've been colonized with it for more than 10 years and have not yet experienced "cepacia syndrome" which is a dramatic worsening of symptoms. Cepacia is a real bugger to treat. You can't get rid of is, all you can do it stay compliant with all your meds (particularly the inhaled antibiotics) and hope that is stays relatively calm.

Also, just to clarify, there are more than 3 species (genomovars) of cepacia. There are 7 I believe; 2 of which are the potentially seriously harmful ones.

As long as your CF clinic and hospital are aware of the cross infection protocols and still to the rules about keeping CFers apart, I wouldn't lose any sleep over the whole thought of cepacia. Living in fear of what you might/could contract is no way to live.
