Also-- if you actively culture pseudo, don't take iron infusions! While it would help the anemia immensely, it can send the pseudo out of control (it's a bug that eats iron).</end quote></div>

What do you mean by 'iron infusions'??? Is this just taking an oral iron supplement?

Anemia runs in my family to an extent and i have always suffered from it on and off, to fix it, my doctor prescribes 3 months of iron tablets (ferro-gradumet one a day) and after three months i'm always fine again - however i'm concerned if this could be sending my pseudo's nuts!!???

When i discovered i was aneamic most recently i did some research as I eat plenty of dark green leafy vegetables and red meat these days so i was surprised to hear i was aneamic - it turns out that co-trimoxazole (also known as DS Bactrim) taken too often can cause iron deficiency aneamia...and as i'd just been on it for three weeks and am on it about 4 times a year, i now expect to have to take iron constantly. Really concerned about it's link to pseudo so if somebody could explain this to me more I'd be very appreciative.

I've also had low iron for a long time and take iron supplements everyday so I would be interested in the iron/pseudo link as well.

Sorry, didn't mean to post twice. The article posted above wasn't as comprehensive as I initially thought. Here's a tip, Google "iron deficiency in patients with cystic fibrosis" and you will find a plethora of really interesting and informative blurbs.

KrazyKat-- When I say avoid iron infusions, I mean avoid taking iron intravenously. If your doctor prescribed the dose of iron you have been taking it's fine. I would trust my doctor over a random post on an Internet message board any day.

Huh...I had no idea iron intake and anemia were such an issue. It only makes sense to me now, but I wouldn't have guessed that to be my problem. Thanks for sharing your experiences, guys!

rotandroll, I'm only taking an oral iron tablet, 130 mg's twice a day. Nothing through IV. But I will keep that in the back of my head. Staph is giving me enough trouble, I don't need the psudo flaring up on me too!
