CF and Asthma... is that possible?

I was just curious if anyone has heard of someone having both CF and asthma at the same time? I had my double lung transplant 3 years ago this September and within the last couple of months I have been experiencing these strange fits of real shortness of breath all of a sudden. They last for about an hour and they usually go away after I do a couple of albuterol treatments. The problem with doing the albuterol treatments is they make me so so shaky that it takes at least 30 minutes to an hour to get rid of those symptoms so it ends up being almost two hours of complete life halting uncomfrotableness and adjustment. I am just wondering if anyone has any further information... thanks!!!

Sorry to hear you are having this shortness of breath. To answer your question, yes there are people who have both. Many people w/CF have an asthma component to their CF (inflamation), some have pure asthma with bronchal spasm etc. My dd has hyperactive airways, starts coughin like crazy with any irritant etc, but no shortness of breath.

Try leverbuterol. Name brand xopenex. It doesn't cause shakes. It was pricey but now is available generic. Our son has cf and an asthma component and cf dr told us many have asthma component.

Yes! I had a transplant & I STILL have asthma! I hate it. I'm usually in pretty good shape after a couple of 'hits' off a Xopanex inhaler.
