CF and birds

I have recently moved in with my daughter who has 2 birds(a parrot let and cockatiel). Does anyone with CF live with birds? Has it affected your health? And additionally do your nebulizers pose a risk to the birds?

my mom is a vet and would never let us have birds. they can carry or get diseases that humans are able to contract from contact with the birds. I would talk to your doctor though and get their opinion.

Ditto. When I was a kid I had a pet chicken until my CF doc found out about it. Bye bye chicken. Dried droppings can easily grow the fungus Histoplasmosis, which can lead to fatal respiratory disease. They can also carry Salmonella and E. coli. No one needs those. We also had to rehome my rabbit due to Pseudomonas.

One of our Facebook members writes: "Birds are a non-negotiable NO from my son's doctor. They carry bacteria in their droppings that can easily be blown into the air with feather ruffling and flapping. It is devastating to me because I've had birds all my life!"
