CF and Celiac

Oh WHAT a hassle. There is no reason for putting you through all that. I'd consider having the full elisa panel done every so often; the combination of various values can increase the accuracy of the results vs. just checking the one.

<br />Drs. that put us through that kind of misery really make me angry. I have such a reduced tolerance for that kind of stuff these days. We have as much right as they do to be treated with respect, and we are the ones paying them for a service- the least they could do is communicate effectively.

My daughter had the full Elisa checked several times and it was negative. She was having such horrible tummy aches and such severe growth issues that our GI (who I love by the way...and we have fired 4 others) finally did a colonoscopy and EGD with biopsies...my daughters intestinal biopsies were all positive for Celiac.

I'm so glad you continued to follow through on the testing when you weren't getting the answers you needed! The biopsies really will give you the solid proof you need- I'm glad you now KNOW and can move forward with helping her, although i imagine that is really overwhelming at the same time.

Harriett,

I'll ask about the elisa, I am not terribly worried anymore as she isn't showing any symptoms. She never had belly pain, we just investigated because even with enzymes she wasn't gaining. Now that we are getting her weight issues covered by the feeding tube, we can assume we just couldn't get enough volume in her to gain.

Thanks -- I will ask.

Yeah, I would assume that all is well there, as you see a direct correlation now between weight and maintaining the tube feeds; but it wouldn't hurt, since one value in isolation may yield either a false negative OR a false positive, and the panel results taken together will give a better indication. If she continues growing and gaining well as she has been (she looks so healthy in the photos you post) I wouldn't worry much either though.
