I'm in my late 50's and was diagnosed with CF about 4 months ago. Over the past month or so, my hair seems to be falling out at lightning speed<img title="Embarassed" src="include/wysiwyg/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-embarassed.gif" alt="Embarassed" border="0" />. Is this a common occurrence for CFers? If so, any suggestions? Thanks, Susan

I've never heard it connected to Cf, but my hair goes through cycles that it just comes out like crazy...there go the days of long, flowing tresses!

In my opinion, it's probably related to the diagnosis and not the disease itself. Hair can fall out from stress. I would go to a dermatologist to rule out anything else then talk to someone to ease your anxiety.

thanks to all for responding - you could be right, it may be stress related. I initially thought i might be due meds since I just started on them a few months ago after being diagnosed. I am not even on that many - pulmozyme, singulair, spiriva, azithromycin MWF, nasonex, (just went off budesonide because of the side effects). Based upon what you've said - I'm thinking it's probasbly not related to meds...but more stress.

Thanks again!

I lost a bunch of hair after my last tune up. (Stress, IV drugs and a surgery). Course I loose bunch of hair in spurts and then it stop and my hair fills back in... for me it seems to somewhat hormonal.

Susan, I totally agree--something to do with CF causes hair loss. I was diagnosed last year, at age 57. I have been pancreatic insufficient for 12 years, using enzymes. I often had bronchitis/pneumonia that wouldn't stop, so a lung xray showed damage, and finally I had a diagnosis. However, during that 12 year period, my hair started coming out--and I didn't have the stress of knowing I had CF. My child had cancer earlier, and my hair stayed put--I'm not saying that stress has nothing to do with it, but that was a huge stress and my hair was great. My husband walked, and my hair stayed in...now it's falling out worse than ever. I've had blood tests, thyroid tests, etc. and everything is normal. Docs don't know why the hair is going....and I was wondering if the CF had something to do with it.

Karen - Thank you for sharing your story. I am truly sorry for all your troubles. It's almost incomprehesible...that in such a short time, you been hit from all sides. I hope your child is winning the battle with cancer - I can only imagine how devestating that was. Losing your husband and then learning you had CF must have been so difficult for you. I hope you have a strong support group among your friends and family. And don't forget...this is a great forum for sharing problems - the CFers are a very caring and responsive group. Please keep in touch. Wishing you all the best, Susan
