Two days ago, 01/8/2010, my great-grandson Isaiah had blood tests that were positive for CF. He will have a sweat test on Wednesday, 01/13/2010. He will be 2 years old on Tuesday, the 12th. The doctors have known all his life that he has a compromised immune system, but we were told it was because (1) he was born with Group B Strep and was in NICU on antibiotics his first 10 days, and (2) he has been on antibiotics most of his life for ear and sinus infections, pneumonia, h1n1, croup with strider, etc. He has a high white cell count, and there is something wrong with his "complements" which I don't completely understand yet. Is all this part of CF, or is his immune deficiency a separate matter altogether that we have to be concerned about?
