CF and Military Wives

lucypearl,

I totally agree... that is what DH tells me too... if you make too many waves, since they're doing "force shaping" anyway, if you're not capable of going on assignments, etc., it just gives them one more reason not to promote or keep you around. So, we ONLY have used it to get stationed where there is a CF center. We don't plan on using it to keep him from going to Korea (which is probably when he gets back from the dessert), cause we'd been told he still has to do what others do and I just have to find other support when he's gone.

Sorry let me clear that up. He wasn't kept in the states because of my health. He was kept at this base because the other two bases they wanted to send him to were not near a CF clinic. But this base is non-deployable. Which is the reason he has not deployed. But if we were to move he would have been deployed. But like I said all branches are different. I have talked to a couple Army wives who have CF and their EFMP is really different.

I would NEVER use it to keep him from deploying anywhere. He wants to do this career and I support him 100% in that. Just wanted to make that clear

Aimee...

Yes, I think Army is very different (as are the other branches...) It just all depends. I'm sure, as with most things in the military, its all in who you talk to also! LOL.... It makes perfect sense that you were kept at a base with a CF center and if that base is non-deployable, this also makes sense. Hopefully you can stay there a long long time! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I have often wondered if we could get extensions at a base cause of CF? It is very difficult to try to get in with new docs every 4 years (or less!) They're usually just getting used to me and I have to move! That, in my opinion, is the worst part of being military and having CF.

I am an army wife and from what I have experienced its the same as everyone else. It has not stopped my husband from being deployed, he has deployed 3 times since we got married in 2006. The first time he did come home early due to the fact that I had a blood clot in my arm and it was a concern if it went to a PE. Long story, he didnt ask to come home but in the overall it didnt really affect him. My health really doesnt affect his job and what he does. I have heard that when its time for us to leave here that the EFMP will help us to make sure that we go to a good place for my cf. Overseas is wiped out so no germany for us, luckly he has already been there. But as far as I have learned the EFMP is only there to just make sure that you go to a staion that has health care for you around it.
