Lucas was tested as a newborn for cystic fibrosis and they said he had the gene that can manifest itself. Which personally i've never heard of. But i regained custody of my son this past week and im obtaining all medical records. And theres a few things that worry me, for one hes had allergies and i was told by his father he never needed medicine anymore but recently got a perscription for zyrtec. ALSO, he shows has increased markings may relate to a bronchitic process or reactive airway disease. There is a moderate gaseous distention of the bowel and upper abdominal. He has persistant coughs and is always having infections and sinus problems. am i being paranoid or is it a good idea.

I would check it out. Your not being paranoid, your being a mom. Your concerns are valid ones.

Yes, absolutely have him tested again I was diagnosed as a infant and then undiagnosed at age 7 and went for yrs. without care, I don't know how I am alive today. But finally got what is called a nasal choloride test which proved postive. My sweat tests ran what they call borderline. So what is the harm in being sure.

It can't hurt, and it would clear it up...so I say go for it. Push until they figure it out! (Especially if you suspect it)

In your state, if IRT is elevated it's followed up with a genetic test. He is, of course, a carrier since he has inherited one of your mutations so it would be sure to find at least one. Now is the time to find out the exact results of his screen and if any other mutations were found. I have trouble believing a 2nd would have been identified and never followed up on, but stranger things have happened and you need to be sure. In any case, regardless of the findings, due to everything going on w/him a more comprehensive genetic test sounds like a good idea (i.e. Ambry testing.)
Wishing the best. <img src="i/expressions/rose.gif" border="0">
