CF and Pregnancy: It's Do-able, but it's still a high-risk proposition for many women

One thing to address as well is the stress on the body post-giving birth. Before I went into kidney failure I discussed the possibility of giving birth with my last clinic and they said that a serious problem can often times be the exhaustion of taking care of a baby. I have heard that a lot of new CF moms don't have the opportunity to take as good care of themselves after they have given birth because of the demands of childcare.

Lauren, thanks for sparking this conversation.

That was the biggest issue for me too. I was exhausted. I think it would have been easier if my daughter had gotten the hang of breastfeeding, though, or if I had chosen formula (but she was a preemie, so I was determined to do it for at least 6 months). Instead I had to pump (and pumping means not missing a time, so your milk production stays up) and then feed her (dh took turns, but he had to go to work). The lack of sleep was awful- I am one who has to have my sleep, or else I get sick (and I did go in for IVs when she was a few months old- and I am rarely in for IV's).

But, it did get a lot better once I was done with breastfeeding (or pumping, rather!) at 6 months and both she and I could get some sleep. Now, it's not really an issue (she's almost 4). My biggest hinderance to getting enough sleep is myself now . And for me, despite all that, having a child has made me more compliant!

Thinking about the exhaustion of having a child (or kids) makes me think of this hilarious eBay listing... I just thought I'd toss a little humor into this thread. Sorry so off-topic, I think parents here might enjoy this.
