Johnna-Did you ever have trouble keeping weight on before you were pregnant?

I guess our bodies can change, esp with pregnancy-but I just can't imagine trying to keep weight on! I have never had trouble getting weight-I've had more trouble trying get rid of a few pounds.

Actually Iwas a bit overweight before getting pregnant...like 20 lbs. As long as I ate healthily and ate like 30 percent more food than the average person I maintained and could gain weight. Towards the last couple of months of pregnancy, I stopped gaining weight because I had to cut down on carbs because of gestational diabetis. I learned to suppliment my calorie intake with more protein and fats so that I did not lose anymore wieght. Now between the lack of sleep, breast feeding, and the increase in activity .. a newborn takes alot of energy..I have been losing quite a bit. I am just trying to eat and drink alot now to keep that under control. I am at 170 right now. That is what I was at before I got pregnant. I really don't want to be below 160. If I get below that I tend to get sick with lung infections. Extra weight with me tends to help insure my health will stay good. Oh, and I think that the diabetis went away after I delivered. The numbers were good when they tested me at the hospital, and I will find out for sure at my 6 week check up. I am now 3 weeks and 4 days postpartum.

Hope this helps someone.

Johnna,

Thanks that was helpful. I guess no matter what our pre-pregnancy weight was, we better make sure we keep enough weight on.

Do you mind me asking-how tall are you Johnna? Thanks!

I steadily gained weight after my son was born (over 7 years of time). I was 104 before I had him and I was 122 when I got pregnant with my daughter. I only breastfed my son for 2 months though. I am now going on 3 months breastfeeding my daughter, with no end of breastfeeding in sight and I have lost all my pregnancy weight, but I am holding pretty steady at about 116 (I am 5'2). Ithink the biggest thing is that if weight gain was an issue for you before pregnancy it probably will be after, if it hasn't been a problem then I bet you'll be OK.
