Hey,
I'm looking for info regarding getting pregnant as a CF adult. I cannot find anything. I was wondering if anyone out there knows of any good sites or has 1st hand experience with this. Thanks. Kelli

I had to talk with my doctor about it..because I was having a hard time finding info about it. He really helped me out and told me what kind of things to expect with having CF and trying to have a baby. He also gave me a book-"Now I have CF" I dont remember the author..but it had a section in there about children- the risks, rewards and all that good stuff! My doctor told me that if I wanted to have kids and be fairly healthy afterwards I should think about doing it while my FEV1 is still high. I would def. talk to your doctor though..because so many things have to be planned out with getting pregnant. Good Luck!

I had my daughter when I was 24. I talked to my doctor extensively before my hubby and I even started trying. I was in pretty good health...so I got the OK. My fevs were at about 75% and actually increased during my pregnancy! I started having trouble with my blood sugars toward the last couple of months...and was induced a little more than 3 weeks early...to prevent going on insulin. I had a healthy baby girl...who has no health problems. 6 mos after she was born I was diagnosed with CF related diabetes. So...pregnancy does affect a healthy CF er as well. Definitely talk to your doctor...Good Luck...Take Care! I'll be glad to answer more questions!

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. My husband and I have been talking about this and decided it's kind of now or never. I am pretty healthy and my CF has always been under control (knock on wood). My FEV 1, is now in the high 50's because I haven't been feeling well. I have a huge annual appt. coming up so I will discuss then the risks, etc. Thanks so much for your input.

Hi i also wendt aand got a lot of advice before becoming pregnant . it took a while to get pregnant but i did need a little help from fertility treatment but happy to say that i gave birth to a baby boy 5 and a half years ago i am diabetic also so i was induced at 36wks and breastfed for 9months, but the only downside to breastfeeding is the variety of antibiotics you can have. Iv had my ups and downs but would never say becoming a mother was wrong as long as you go through the right channels first and get the advice and way up all the pros and cons. good luck to you and hope everything goes well for you.
love wendy
