Cf and yellow teeth

My daughter is 7 years old and her teeth are very yellow. She brushes regularly but still they are yellow. Could it be that she is not drinking a lot of milk products but boost instead.
Is this common in CF?
Thanks

I don't know how common it is, but my daughter has the same problem. I don't know if it CF itself that may cause it, or the meds that they are on but is is very frustrating. She gets a lecture from the dentist every time about brushing... and she does brush twice a day. She is 15 and has never had a cavity, but the yellow teeth are frustrating. I have heard of other CFers having problems with teeth, and others that do not. So again, don't know if it is CF related, or something else. Yeah, a lot of help that was!

I always assumed it was from the vitamins, which stained ds teeth terribly as a baby. We get our teeth cleaned 4 times a year and the hygienist so far has been able to remove it. Antibiotics can also discolor teeth as can some neb drugs. We recently invested in an electric toothbrush which has helped

Yes main cause antibiotics but also nebbing, malnutrition, just being sick, eating loads of sugary food, throwing up a lot, so on.

There are better whitener toothpastes now that can be safely used everyday and it makes a difference for me. If they are old enough to use regular toothpaste they can use these as well.

If there's severe antibiotics staining there's not much to do but smile anyway or have them whitened by a dentist at some point.

Mouth hygiene is extra important with CF, but yellow teeth in and of itself aren't necessarily bad. They are often stronger than moviestar whites.

My daughter's teeth are discolored, From antibiotics, etc. One time, after inhaled antibiotics they looked gray. The dental hygenist cleaned them really well and it came off! We go every 6 months, she has not had a cavity, which is good. I may be one of the weird few people who do not like that white bleached teeth look. Makes people look like plastic dolls;)

Look on Pinterest for good natural ways to help the whitening process as well as whitening toothpastes. I heard rubbing the inside of a banana peel on your teeth works as well as putting peroxide on them for 30 seconds before brushing your teeth.

Yep it is almost considered a CF charactaristic. Bummer. My primary teeth rotted away before my secondary teeth were ready to push most of them out. I swear my adult teeth came in with cavities. Brush my teeth? I even tried a brass brush for a little while. My poor mouth and teeth have been punished for bad hygene with excessive hygene. Instead of my teeth going yellow, the went clear like glass. Talk about creepy.

I had huge problems with my teeth it was called 'pitted enamel' and it was to do with being malnourished and having lots of sugary supplements to help with my weight. This all resulted in really bad brown staining on my teeth and I ended up having a major whitening job done on them when I was 13 now there pearly white :)

I am 26 and didn't have any issues with my teeth until I got my braces off (when I was 18). Now I've had several cavities and they tend to yellow quicker. I use Sensodyne Pro Enamel often and then use a whitening toothpaste as well. I also brush with peroxide and baking soda every week or so. If they get really bad (I'm pretty anal when it comes to white teeth), I buy white strips.

My teeth have always been yellow. Yet, it is not plaque (having them cleaned at the dentist does not help). Fortunately, some people here seem to say that whitening stuff helps. So unless the yellowing was caused by tetracycline antibiotics (which is not a kind a antibiotic that is commonly given to CFers, btw), the yellowing should be reversible. If it was caused by tetracyclines however, the yellowing is irreversible, since it happened while the teeth were forming inside the jaw, so it's not simply a surface discoloration.

I have read that baking soda damages the enamel. You may be doing more harm than good by using baking soda.

Only tetracyclines cause yellowing/greying of the teeth. What you notice on your daughter's teeth after she has done her nebs is decalcification stains. It shows up when the teeth are dry or have been dry for a long amount of time. Have her leave her teeth to dry for several minutes. The same thing will happen.
