my daughter was swallowing beads since when she was 3 weeks old....crushed viokase tastes like vomit!!! our nicu tried to give it to my daughter when she was 2 weeks old and she went crazy, screaming and crying. her cf doc was away and when she returned she apologized and started her on creon and she has been on it ever since. most children on this site have taken the beads since they were way younger than 8 months. are you going to an accredited cf clinic or just a primary care doctor? i would request the beaded enzymes, the sooner you get your little one use to the texture of the beads in his mouth the better! good luck!

DS was on pancreacarb mt 4s, which when emptied into baby food bananas, were like grains of sand -- the beads were so tiny we probably could've put them in an oral syringe. When he was 2 weeks old they switched him to pancrease mt 4s, which were larger beads.

Basically we'd sprinkle the beads (3 1/2 capsules worth) onto a spoonful of baby food bananas -- he hated applesauce and then stuck the bottle in his mouth. Formula washed all the enzymes down.

My daughter was 5 months old when she started taking creon coated beads. We just opened up the caplets and put the beads in some applesauce. We never had any trouble and she always swallowed them.
There's a spoon that Boon makes that holds 4 oz applesauce or baby food and you just squeeze the applesauce into the spoon. No clean up, no mess! It's amazing! No more worrying about taking a package of applesauce everywhere you go. Just throw the spoon in the bag and you're good! DD is 2 now and swallows pills, but still needs the applesauce. We love the spoon!

Both my daughters have taken the enzymes in applesauce since birth. No problems...my now 7 mos old has to have it mixed in a little bit of applesauce rather than just a spoon...I think she has texture issues...but she still takes them without a problem. My other daughter has always taken them with 1 bite.

That spoon sounds great! I gotta check those out! We have so many problems with the applesauce leaking! I even bought bowls mady especially for liquids and it still leaks! Does the spoon leak at all?
