CF Camp in Michigan, called Onkoi Benek

I started in the forum to search for old friends from the CF Camp I went to years ago.
I figure putting this message in the adult section would attract a lot who may have attended the camp at one time or another.
I found some related links, but didn't get any answers. There was a forum on this subject, but I couldn't find it in the search, and the internet search showed it as an old subject matter--I'd like to renew it for a moment--
I was in Japan when the 25th anniversary happened in 1997. I then learned the camp was indefinitely postponed due to the spreading of germs from one patient to the other.
I went to the camp in it's second year. I was able to attend until I was 18, which was as a Camp Counselor (In Training).
Part of this posting is "Whatever Happened To..." , the other part is seeing if I can contact former Campers or Counselors.
If not, the nostalgia goes on....

I attended, hmm I know I was there in 97, and I believe 96, or perhaps it was 95. It was a long time ago to say the least.
I'd post more but right now I really have to leave since I have an early morning appointment that I need to get ready for.

Candice,
How was the appointment?
You're living in Texas, right? Does this mean you traveled all the way to Michigan to attend the Camp, or did you used to live out there?
My last year there was '83 or '84, I'd been in Japan since '93.
By the way, due to time zone differences, I'm writing this while you're dreaming away...peaceful dreams.

By the way, to those of you reading this spool, I did get contact from one former camper, who went to the camp the same time I did.
Hope to be lucky in finding a few more.

Actually while you're writing this I'm probably up sitting at my computer, I'm a major night owl. :p
The appointment was alright, just discussing various disability options and getting that set up for the new college year.
[I'm currently a college sophomore]

Actually I *just* currently moved from Texas to Pennsylvania. Currently = 4 days ago.
When I attended camp, at the time I was living in Flint, Michigan so it wasn't that far away. It was later when we moved to Texas.
Actually as far as I remember the camp closed due to outbreaks of MRSA.
I do know that a few times after that they did try to get CFers together for various functions/events. I.e. trips to football games, cedar point, stuff like that. Last I heard they were doing a family retreat kind of thing, but it was a while ago so I don't know how that turned out.

I know there are a few others that visit the board occasionally that have gone to Onkoi Benek, don't remember off the top of my head who it was, but hopefully they'll get in contact with you as well.

Oh yes, and welcome to the boards. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Thanks for the info, ImmortalGoddezz.
I've never been to Flint, though I knew a lot of campers came from there.
I've never been to Texas, though I'll be leaving for Colorado, again. (I think Mockingbird is from Denver)
I've been through Pennsylvania several times (once, I got a speeding ticket by an unmarked!). Beautiful Mountains!
It was on my way to D.C. to visit my sister and brother in law.
4 days is a little quick to ask what you think of it, so I'll ask what your College major is going to be.
(I take it, the reason for going to Pennsylvania is for College, right?)
I miss those days when I was a night owl...But the most memerable are the days I worked at a Wendy's Late-nite Drivethrough!

Sorry for the late reply, been a bit busy getting moved in and spending time with my boyfriend.

My major is going to be History, and yes the reason for the move is because I'm changing colleges.
<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Definitely fuun so far.
I bet you have a ton of interesting stories from that job. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I am a former camper. What camp did you go to? I went to Camp Wak-N-Hak in Georgia. It would be awesome to hear from an old fellow camper. I remember many people who went to camp. Dr. Deb was the director. So let me know what camp it was.

You are learning young "ccflewallen" Grasshopper! (haha)
Any idea what year your CF camp had originated? The one in Michigan had started in 1971, and I started going from '72.
