CF causing Acne?

I believe that new research will show that acne IS part and parcel of CF. CF sufferers "over-produce" mucus - - all body mucus - - including too much salt in sweat and cervical mucus in females - -which causes problems getting pregnant. It's all systemic.

For example, many CF sufferers are also plagued with psoriasis - and over-production of skin cells.

I'm wondering how many CF patients out there on this blog suffer from one kind of acne or another??

I've read a couple of times that bacterial load in our lungs can cause acne and i think it must be true as for years I suffered from acne on and around my mouth and chin (nothing major but enough to make me feel a little miserable). This was back when i never treated my lung infections so was chronically mildly/moderately infected and had a constant nasty chesty cough...i also used to have a constant circle of eczma in the middle of my back (but none anywhere else so suspect it was lung bacteria related) and I suffered constantly from a bad scalp - psoriasis???

Fast forward two years, my chesty cough is gone as i now have treated and continue to treat my bugs, i get ZERO pimples ever, anywhere, I have no more eczma on my back anymore (and still none anywhere else) it has completely disappeared.

I therefore believe that both the acne and the eczma on my back were related to the bacteria that used to me so prolifent in my lungs.

Interestingly, since i have started taking a pro-biotic every day, my scalp problems have completely disappeard also, which leads me to believe the problem may have been yeast related, or again maybe bacteria related, although i have had some scalp problems up until a few months back, so I think it was overgrowth of yeast that caused the scalp issues.

Yes I think there is a corelation between cf and acne. Not all cfers I'm sure, but there are so many that complain of this. My doctor has said that acne is more common in cfers, b/c we have oily-er skin, more mucus production which affects all systems of the body, and also b/c we are on more meds than most that mess with it.
I have always had bad acne, on my face and all over my body. Since I'm preg-its 10 times worse. Interestingly, when I was on birth control it cleared up alot.

You know I have had acne throughout my whole teen life and still get them to this day, they arent that bad and my back use to be bad too, but now its all cleared up, I might get some here and there on my back once in awhile but my face always seems to have acne, not too much a few here and there but I got em, I never thought of me having them because of CF, but it could be possible. I dont think my brother or sister had any acne problems. I do have an oily face so I always thought that was why I had acne all the time.

I dont have a lot of "normal" pimple type acne. I get the sore, under the skin type boil ones. IMHO its connected to my staph. It seems that if I am not on Bactrim its much worse and if I touch my chin or forehead (the areas....especially the chin) with my hands throughout the day is when things flare up. I wash the chin & forehead with antibacterial soap day & night to help kill what I might be putting on my face with my hands. Mine also is worse in the winter (mainly jan/feb) months!
