CF clinic appointment on Wednesday

It has been rough at my house lately - Josh has been home sick since Wed night with a cold. He's feeling better but isn't completely over it. Then Logan was sick for over 24 hours with that fever. Horrible timing! I have my clinic appointment on Wednesday. It wouldn't matter if my clinic were Local, but they're in San Francisco. I live about 3.5 hours away from SF.

So tomorrow Logan and I will take the (at least) 4 hour train ride to the bay area, have my appointment on Wednesday, and then directly after the appointment we will make the 3.5 hour drive back to Fresno with my mom. My parents have a house in the bay area which I grew up in. Until Jan, when she retired, my mom worked in SF. So right now they're trying to fix up the house a bit. My mom comes to my appointments to watch after Logan (SO thankful for that!).

I have NO idea how I am going to do this when I have a new baby and a toddler. I would eventually like to leave Logan at home but he's not ready to spend a night without me yet. I am starting to dread clinic appointments due to the complete hassle it involves. I hate having my clinic so far away. My local CF clinic is at the children's hospital and the hospital decided a few years ago that they would no longer see anyone over the age of 18. So all of us CFers were SOL. The clinic made a feeble attempt to find an adult doctor but it didn't pan out. And they did a horrible job of transitioning us out. They basically gave me a piece of paper with a few phone numbers on it of clinics in the bay area and the LA area and said "good luck - let us know how it goes".

Sorry for the vent. Anyone else go to a clinic so far away?

Oh my goodness, I can not imagine all you go through to get to your clinic appointments. That just plain sucks! How can a center just kick the adults out like that, unreal!

The adult CF center I go to recently moved out of the childrens hospital and now it is actually a tad closer to my house. When the center was at the hospital I planned for about an hour - hour and fifteen minutes car trip. Now I can plan for 30-45 minutes depending on the time of day - rush hour and such. I feel stressed out just thinking about you having to make such a long trip. I can usually schedule my appointments around DH work schedule but there are times I have to take Alexa with my and it is TOUGH! My PFT's are always lower when I have to take her with me. By the time they get see me and do the PFT's I am tired from making sure Alexa is not getting into EVERYTHING. Then when I try to do the PFT's I am half watching her and half paying attention to the task I need to get done.
The CF center I went to growing up was 2 -2.5 hours and that was always an all day trip. We left bright and early in the a.m. and got home at night time.

Mine is in NYC and I live in suburbs now. Its been really hard to go in with Amelia since DH has to take off from work and come with us so I can BF her. I'm considering switching to a local clinic but I don't know if they have experience with unusually mild cases like mine. Over treating my CF could make me sick so its a hard decision. For now since we may not have another baby I will stick with my clinic.

Sorry you are having hard time, I hope you dont get sick so you make few trips in.

my clinic is 3 hours away from where i live too. it sucks cause i have to drive there. i hate driving there, well actually i will admit, i sleep while austin drives. it still is such a pain. especially since they split their patients, new ones in the mornings, so i have to go after noon, which makes it a pain. so we don't get home late. but it's the closest cf accredited clinic. when i go out in town here where i live to get a referral to go anywhere and i tell them i have cf and they listen to me, they tell me i sound so clear, then i go to the cf doctor and they tell me i sound crappy so it's really irrating. i understand where you are coming from though. it's so frustrating. austin is in the marine corps, so we have to be placed somewhere where there is a cf accredited clinic, seems like it just has to be in that state. it's frustrating though!
