CF clinic appointment on Wednesday

I totally understand, it's way harder to do doctor's appointments when you have kids, work, and everything else.

Before I moved to Mass, I lived in the Detroit area. I had to drive 3.5 hrs to my CF clinic in Cleveland. I had gone to the clinic in Cleveland since I was a baby because there were no good CF centers in Michigan when I was born, so my parents found a good one in Cleveland. I got quite used to the drive and because the people at my clinic were so nice and made our visit so enjoyable, it was no big deal to drive there for appts.

Since moving to western Mass, I have found a decent (not as good as Cleveland) clinic in Boston. I commute 1.5 hours to my clinic there. They have an adult doc/program. I still go to Cleveland once/year to my old doctor. We drive through the Cleveland area anyways to visit family in Detroit, so it's not too much of a hassle. But I might win the longest distance to clinic for that drive (9 hrs), LOL!

I truly believe there are a lot of people that drive long distances to their CF clinics. If you're lucky enough to be near a good center, then great...but a lot of centers are sorta crappy in my opinion, and you have to travel to get to the better ones.

Well, good luck at your appointment. Hope it goes well and that you don't come down with the horrible sicknesses going around.

wow, thats crazy, counting myself lucky here with clinic being 15 minutes from my work and 30 from home. ps I live in MI he he he--glad you said when you were born and not now Leah!

anyway no ideas for you except that I have read that it is good to start making transitions before the new baby gets here so Logan wont associate new baby with all these thigns like mommy not being able to pick him up right away or mommy having to go over night etc, perhaps it is worth trying to be away from him overnight now if you think you will have to do it later? I havent been away overnight either so I understnad just thought I woudl throw it out there as food for thought.

I would drive and do it in a day but Logan would freak if I left for a whole day. Plus I'd rather not drive there and back in the same day. AND Logan is a HORRIBLE car traveler which is why we take the train there. We used to take the train back but he's doing better and better w/ the drive back. He used to sleep for most of it but since he stopped napping I'm not sure how this ride will go. At least he is old enough to understand that we're doing a long drive. We do stop if he wants/needs it. Josh works so my mom just goes w/ me to the clinic. I'm not sure how I'll manage the train by myself with a toddler and a baby but by that time I may have one of my parents come w/ on the train to help. Its hard enough with just a toddler to entertain for 4 hours on a boring train ride. He loves the train but not for 4 hours LOL.

Gotta go!

The other solution is to have your mother come to your house the night before, and babysit while you go to clinic and back in one day. I know you said Logan will freak if you're gone all day, but you know what? He'll get used to it. Finding something that is easier on you, especially when baby arrives is going to be key. I have twins the same age as Logan (about the same age I think) and sure they are all about mommy when I'm available, but they have surprised my husband and I with how well they handle my hospitalizations. Give it a shot next time. Just leave him at home w/ Grandma. Everyone will survive! (assuming your mom will make the drive???)
