CF Clinic Complaints...Anyone Else??

Wow -- I would be LIVID!!! It is not at all like that at our clinic. We get a private room immediately and on rare occasions we have had to wait no more than 10 minutes with one or two other CFers in a pretty large waiting room. Even that much ticks me off.

Do you have choices in your area? Becuase we have 2 CF centers within 60 miles of our house and more a little further away. I think competition makes them more cautious about their behavior. I've been very pleased with our clinics approach to this kind of issue -- you don't have to stand for it, you have a right to be angry here.

i sympathize yesterday i think our clinic visit was one of the quickest in awhile , we were out of there in about two hours, i would have to say the biggest complaint i have about our clinic is the social worker truely what does she get paid for? she is no help i have had to research on my own, just recently my son was dropped from his state insurance which i was totally not financially prepared for she has no information for me as far as resources all she could say was welcome to the working poor. if looks could she would have been toast. <img src="">

I had this problem ONE time.....forgot the reason, but it was a legit reason. We sat in the corner of the hallway, down around the corner out of everyone's way reading. They came & got us!

Otherwise we are always put in a room even if its not the room that the doctor will be seeing me in.

If you have a cell phone I would tell them to call you when they are ready and make sure they know you are NOT willing to risk sitting in the waiting room with other CF patients!

If they are an accredited CF Center this is a NO NO according to CFF guidelines!

We had a similar issue when DS was a baby. At first it wasn't too bad because we could keep him in his carseat carrier, sit away from everyone, throw a receiving blanket over his face. But as he got older -- waits got longer -- tiny waiting room AND a nurse told us that they only gave us our own exam room because DS was the youngest CFer, otherwise on clinic days they had the patients go from room to room to see the various doctors and medical staff.

Then we once waited an hour and we DID walk out. And things changed for the better briefly. We arrived and we were put in a room asap. And then things started slipping again and when ds was 2 1/2 we arrived, we waited half an hour, then they put us in a room then the nurse tried to have us trade with another CFer w/productive cough -- I refused 'cuz the weren't going to clean the room. And they made us wait 1 1/2 hours before we saw someone and half hour in between. We never went back. We see our local CF doctor twice a year at the peds clinic, have our annual blood work done there and cultures.

The local clinic told us they're not concerned because they don't have any cepacia cases -- though I know of two adult cfers who DID. And they also told us it was to expensive on clinic days to have enough individual exam rooms for patients. This is an accreddited CF clinic, yet they don't practice infection control guidelines. Heck, one doctor never seems to wash his hands.
