If a cf center puts itself fourth as a cf center should it not just perform pulmonary evaluations but care for patients with multiple problems GI, endocrine, hepatic etc. Maybe thay should be called pulmonary cf centers if that is all they do! I will be the second generation in my family "not to die from CF" Why? because I have cf in other systems they most have it in the lungs. Let us all remember that CF is a congenital birth defect that effects the body at the cellular level. Your lungs might be your problem today, but any system can be effected at anytime. Will you be satisfied being referred to some general GI or endocrine MD? I can tell you that you won't.

The CF clinic I go to is the Kaiser-Sunset (L.A., Ca). My team I see every 3 months is great at the pulmonary part. They have not reassigned a GI specialist since one left over 5 years ago. I never noticed the weakness of the team until 4 months ago, I started to get GI issues that still has not been diagnosed. When I was first diagnosed at 37, they would tell me I have a mild case. My concerns were just about the pulmonary part, but now I'm feeling affect to my GI system. Still looking for a doctor that can tell me if its pancreatitis, appendicitis, gall bladder disease, bacterial overgrowth, etc. Beyond frustrating.
