I would call Beth. I live in NC and have never heard about the home bound thing before. Is it a law or is it something you were told by ur ins co or home care co? I would look into the legality of that. It just doesnt sound right to me. Couldnt that be discrimination of some type?
I know you said its with SC, but I'll just tell u what I do. When I am on at home IV infusion, I have in administer my own mediciation, no nurse will come out to help with that after the first "lesson". However, the IV therapy company sends out a nurse from one of the home health businesses they deal with to draw my blood for the IV meds. Also, they UPS my medicines to me (even though the company is 30-45 mins from my house). They tell me they can access and change my port needle and dressing, but I am very funny on and only allow certain ppl do it if I can help it. Since my DH is a RN, so he handles that. Its done once a week. It sounds like a insurance policy or a policy placed by the company you are getting the stuff from. I would look around at different medical supply companies to see what they offer, so next time u do home IVs, you may have an easier time. Plus u will need to get supplies for your port in order to do the monthly flushes when it is not in use. You need to find a company you can get that from.
