CF metaphors

Okay, I have to admit that I stole this idea in part from Skye's recent blog post title - "the art of drowning" (very poetic and cool, btw) - and also in part from the recent discussion of CF commercials, but I've noticed a lot of people seem to compare CF, or fighting CF, to drowning. I've also heard people compare it to a race, to climbing a mountain, and a couple of other things. So I thought I'd pose the question to the group. Do you guys have a central image you compare CF to, or that you use to describe how you feel about CF? Maybe something that motivates you, or that captures just how you feel when you're sick? Just throwing it out there. Cfers seem to have so many different perspectives and ways of coping with this disease, so I thought it would be fun to hear whatever ideas you guys had about this.

Okay, discuss <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

Mine is a little less uplifting than what you mentioned... but whenever people go "well no one knows when they're going to die" and "anyone could get hit by a bus tomorrow", the one I've always heard is... CF is more like being tied to a train track. You can't get off and you see it coming at you. You know it's coming. It's not the same as "anyone could get hit by a bus" when you know it's coming. You know?

Not really cheery, but that's my main one. Hahahaa.

Hmm... just wanted to add... I'm not one of those people that just sits there and watches said train come at me, so to speak. That's just my argument when people get all "no one knows when they're going to die, so it doesn't matter". It's not the same and that drives me nuts, so that's what I come back with in that situation.

I always refer to coughing up stuff as "hacking up a fur-ball". Maybe it's not the simplistic elegance you're seeking <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> but what can I say, we've got cats. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> ~Juliet
