Hi

I want to state that I admire stay at home moms and know it is a huge job.

that being said is there any other CF mom out there that also works full time outside home? I go back to my job in a bit over 2 weeks, having just had my daughter 12/20 and I am thinking of how I am going to get everything done (ie treatments before work pumping etc).

Is there any one else out there that is doing this?

thanks,
Nicole

I worked full time for 6 of my son's 7 years. It was hard, but we got into a routine. I am not staying at home with my daughter - I am supposed to go back to work in october, but I think I might quit my job and spend a few more years at home.

Any thing more specific you want to know, just ask!

What was your routine like with a newborn? Here is what I am thinking if I have to do 2 breathign treatments in am as well as physio plus feed baby and pump on top of all regualr stuff how long will that take? I normally have to leave house at 6:20am so to drop off at daycare I am thinking 6am since my sister only lives a mile away. What time do I need to start all my stuff? Ugh

I have to admit it is hard for me to figure out because in past I was a slacker on treatments. I did my nebulizers with a portable neb in my car while driving the 30 minutes to work and never did physio in morning. I am trying to break that habit now because for one I just found out portable neb is not good for tobi pulmozyme when originally my old pulmonolgist approved it I am also trying to take everything very serious and follow to a T so I can stay around as long as possibel for my daughter (I know should have done it before).

Nicole,

I plan to return to work after our baby is born. Not knowing when the baby is going to arrive has been difficult for planning. How long was your maternity leave? It seems like maybe it is 8 weeks but I'm not sure how long you worked before delivery. I think I remember you had a c-section but I'll have to look back to remember for sure. Did it seem satisfactory? Is Lilian on some sort of sleeping schedule that you are getting adequate sleep? This is one of my biggest worries.

Why do you have to leave so early in the morning? I'm guessing you have an 8:00am start time. Is it possible to move it back to 9:00am so you have a little more time in the morning to do your routine? I know it's probably nice to get off work early in the evening but some additional time in the morning might really be helpful for your cf care. My routine without a baby is 1.5 hrs. am and pm when I'm on Tobi and 1 hour am and pm when I'm not on Tobi. I also bring my acapella to work with me and do it 10 min. mid am and mid afternoon if I'm congested which is more often than not.

My hope is to work from home 3 days a week and work 2 days in the office so... work full time but I realize I might need to work into it with a 4 day week at first for example. I'd love to hear more about your approach with your employer and lessons learned now that you've 'experienced' being a mom for a bit now.

Is your sister caring for Lilian? That's such a great opportunity. Right now childcare is my biggest thing up in the air and it drives me nuts. My hope is to find a mother of an infant that is planning to stay home the first year and wants to make a small income by watching my child as well. My second choice is a 'shared nanny.' Oh how I wish I had a sis or family that could help me out.

Any advice would be great. I hope I didn't highjack your post.

Lauren- my son had to go to a daycare. At first I sent him to a home daycare, but that actually was worse to me than the daycare center he went to - i found a great one that wasn't too big - so I know what a headache daycare can be.

Nicole, honestly, with my son, I didn't do any treatments, so it wasn't an issue. I don't know how I will combine treatments with all this when i do have to go back to work.

I know you said nebbing tobi with the portable neb wasn't the best idea, but I think that honeslty might be your best chance to ensure you are getting most of your treatments in - using the time in the car is a great thing - i may look into a portable ned myself! How much neb do you think is lost by doing it that way?

Also, you could get your main pumping time done in the evening and night, so you could wake up, nurse the baby and then head out the door with your refrigerated stash that you'd pumped the night before - plus you'll also have a good stash b/c you will have to pump at least twice I would imagine while you are at work.(pump as often as you can to keep your supply up!)

I am trying to think of other ideas to help you....how will your husband factor into all this - is he arond in the am to help get the baby dressed and what not? Because you could do your vest or whatever you do when he is getting the babe changed and stuff. I am sure you will get a routine down - and then let us all know what you do so we can take some notes!

Wanderlost & LouLou--thanks for chatting with me

To answer you yes my sister is caring for her right now I think perhaps until she is 6 months old that will get us through cold and flu season and will be a good transtion I think instead of all sudden throwing her into full blown daycare. I have already reserved my spot at a very nice daycare for 2 weeks after my sister starts watching her incase things dont work out as she has 2 of her own 2yo and 11mo so I dont want to overwhelm her. The daycare I chose is one with monitors in the rooms so I can log on internet and see her at any time (only with my parent code) and she is 1/2 mi from my work when in center so I can BF on my lunch break or just visit. We are paying my sister $100 week which is more than she can make at a part time job and we are paying her cash so that makes it good for her and it is cheaper than the daycare by far!

My husband and I work at the same place and start at the same time (7am!) so goal is for him to get her ready except feeding of course that way I just have to pump and do treatments and get myself ready. The early start leaves me having to get up really early but if I push it back I would have to get her ready all on my own plus we live 1/2 hour away so it really saves on gas driving together. Also leaving at 3:30 allows me to get to appointments and such without taking off of work early but if this doesnt work out we talked abotu pushing my start time back. I have been considering seeing how well the TOBI goes in my new portable and doing that on way to work so time ahead in am remains constant at least. I do not have a table top neb so I have to get one rx at my appt next week. Since my insurance just paid for new portable I am a bit worried they wont want to buy me another

ok I am done pumping and have to run to gym before it gets too late but will check back later and see if there is anythign I forgot to address.

oh btw I get 8wk paid for c-section and I took 2 weeks vacation so I start back 28th I wanted to avoid being at wokr in feb because I ALWAYS get sick in feb and I just wanted extra time too. I will start taking her to my sister's 1/2 days next week to ease into this and practice gettin ready in time.

well today was the first early day. I am not working this week but we are doing 1/2 days at my sisters this week and then next week mon tue she will go whole days for adjustment's sake and I start work on wed.

We managed to get out driveway only 5 minutes after goal but in re-evaluating I think we will need to leave about 5 minutes earlier than originally planned.

I woke up showered, then did zopenex pulmozyme while did vest, then pumped one side, she woke up shortly thereafter and my husband got her ready while I got ready and then I fed her and we were out of the house shortly thereafter. Total time 1 hour 40 minutes so not too bad I thought of showering night before but I think I need shower to wake up! LOL Definately have to make sure all bags packed, clothes out etc to make mornign a bit smoother.

It went pretty well at my sisters her two kids liked having her there, novelty for now wait until they start having to share htough - LOL, anyway she didnt sleep fro my sister but other than that pretty good.

Oh and I am compromising a bit and doing tobi on the road - oh well I did it for 4 years before I knew I shouldnt and I am still doing way better than I did before I had her. I dont think there is much difference but it is just not 'approved'.
