CF regime

So I got this off another site but I thought it would be interesting to bring onto this foroum. This is suppose to be light-hearted and all that good stuff. So what part of your CF medicine regime do you hate the most to do? Like for me I hate doing the TOBI and Vest, thats when its my on month of TOBI. For my off months I think for some reason I hate taking ADEKS. Just for some reason I dont like taking those stupid pills. Well those are my top complants of my medicine regime. Any others?

I have to agree with you about the TOBI and the vest. TOBI just takes so darn long! And the vest just annoys me. It was fun for like the first month, then I got over the novelty of it.

I don't do the Vest personally, because I hated it that much. I go with manual PT instead. And I don't take inhaled TOBI. Pulmo gets annoying, in that I have to remember and get off my butt to take it every day, and sometimes (okay, a lot of the time), I just want to be lazy. But I will agree with Courtney in that I hate the ADEKs. Some of the people I've talked to like the taste, but I can't stand it.

Worst meds of all time, though? Are three antibiotics, and not something I'm on constantly. Cipro, Ceftaz, and Meropenem. Cipro doesn't work for my lungs anymore, but that doesn't mean it does nothing. The entire time I'm on it, whenever I am, it tears through my intestines and gives me chronic constant diarrhea. I mean way worse than just normal CF issues. I can't really make any kind of plans where I'm out of the house for too long, because I need to be near a toilet I'm comfortable having diarrhea in. I hate going number 2 in any public bathroom with just "regular" CF stools. Diarrhea? Frickin forget it! ("What's worse than having diarrhea? Trying to have it quietly in a public bathroom"). And Ceftaz tastes how cat piss smells. Granted, it's an IV med, but as I'm sure most of you know, if you've got a good enough line, you can taste some meds as they're infusing. And Ceftaz literally tastes exactly how cat piss smells. And then finally, the Meropenem. I was on that for the first time last August, and I was nauseous the entire time I was on it. My appetite went to hell, and I hardly ate anything. Only thing that I wanted continually the whole two weeks was Junior Mints... and let's face it, that's not a good diet on its own. Haha. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

Hi Emily,
I thought I was the only one with the Junior mint diet!!! I was on Ceftaz (which makes my pee smell like cat piss!) Amikacin and oral Biaxin and my appetite completely deserted me... the only thing I could get down was junior mints! Something about the chocolate/mint combination, I don't know.... I ate boxes and boxes of them. ....anyway those little candies saved my life, at least I was getting some calories. I couldn't even look at any other type of food without gagging. I don't think there is anything worse than having NO appetite, you can look at food you love and it is like you are looking at something disgusting, you can't even think about putting it in your mouth. Anyway, just had to share that junior mint story... I'm glad you like them too!

lol!! Mike worked at a gas station at the time, and he would bring me home 3 of the giant boxes everytime he went into work, because he knew it was the only thing I was eating. I lived on them. lol Hehehee.

Ugh, I HATE adeks, yuk yuk yuk. I used to swallow them and occaisionly choke on them, so I didnt like them. Then I was told that you're supposed to chew the-i hate the taste plus they stick to my teeth-so I crush them and put them in yogurt.
When I was on merepenum and tobramycin a while ago, my appetite also desserted me! I relied on my gtube for two weeks cas i ate nothing (bar a hario fizzy sweet and thats it!)
Oh and as for the fortrum, my mouth roof always went like tingely...Has anyone ever noticed dizziness/light headness with tobramycin? x

I have to say it would be my Tobi. I started taking a chewable vitamin C, if you haven't tried them they are the worst tart tasteing thing. But I bought this huge bottle so I suffer through it. My ADEK's no longer bother me after that. HeeHee.

I love ADEKs... I guess i am weird!! The thing i hate the most to do is my vest, or any type of therapy!! I dont mind taking pills or doing my treatments, with exceptions to TOBI I don t like that stuff cause it takes to long, I just like to do things and get them over fast....!!! Even though i dont have a job or anywhere to go!!! I just don tlike to waste the time, even though it is not wasting time to help myself!!!! So that is my scoop on cf regimines....

In Boston... I do one of two things: I either use the elliptical machines in the school gym (haven't done that in months), or I rely on walking in the city. I have to walk everywhere, so it's decent exercise. At home, when I need the manual PT, my boyfriend Mike does it.

I must be a dorkus, because I LOOOOVE Tobi. I love the way I feel when I take it. Feels like it's working. I hate doing the vest. Makes me throw up half the time, even though I give my food time to settle.

Many of you complain about the taste of the ADEK vitamins. My daughter also hated them and the staining on her teeth. Her doctor changed her to ABDEK vitamins - they are soft gels that can be swallowed.

Ok I know this is an old thread but I havent been on here in a while and I had to comment on this. I experience this also, though only with tobramycin IV (when my port is actually working properly). When I mention it to the nurses they just say oh really and pass it off because I dont think they believe me!

How many others have experienced this?

When I got my light headeness from tobramycin the first time, I go, 'oh i feel kind of dizzy'. The nurse looked at me and sighed and said 'go get the blood pressure machine so..' I don't really think she took me seriously...
I don't usually get the taste with tobramycin, just with fortum and amikan. Shamrock, x

My daughter can taste Tobramycin, Fortaz, and meropenum. She says the worst one is the Fortaz.
She also says she gets a weird metallic taste in her mouth from the Heparin flushes.
