I was diagnosed in 2005 and the novolog pens are super easy to use and a very small needle you can use with it. Also, they make novolog jr that will allow 1/2 doses so check into that too. I tried oral meds in the beginning but what I found was the meds sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. IT was too upredictable so I went to insulin which is highly reccommended for CF'rs. But what you said about the mild drip made me think of a question I was asking the nurtritionist at CF clinic. Bottom line she said "normal" people do not get high or very high blood sugars just cause they ate something that would cause it to spike. She said their bodies produce the insulin to take care of what they eat. So for what it is worth, that told me that food really should not make me high if my body was working normally so therefore, I do need the insulin.
I was also told they treat CFRD very proactive and aggressive so our bodies do not have to deal and have complications from the diabetes while we are trying to fight our infections.
GOOD LUCK!
