CF saved my life when appendix ruptured

My most miraculous story: year:1992
My appendix burst when I was having my 13th b-day slumber party. My GP doctor said it was probably just a stomach bug that was going around. We went and saw him the next day or so and he checked me out and stuck with his original diagnosis. I was in such immence pain as it was my appendix! The pain slowly subsided and was gone a few days later. I was ok until a month later and the pain came back again. This time I went to the hospital and had some at testing done.....one was a barium enima, ugh! They still couldn't figure out what it was so I went to my CF specialist in Atlanta, GA at that time. They did more tests at Emory Children's Hospital and thought it might be a cyst on my ovaries, or some other things I can't remember but they weren't sure. So they did exploratory surgery. That's when they discovered my appendix had ruptured. The reason I didn't die and was ok for so long was b/c all the mucus from my CF had formed a kind of seal over the rupture and stopped the poison from killing me!!!! How about that! The disease that is slowly killing me actually saved my life! They said they had only heard of this happening a few times so it was extremely rare!

Yes, that is EXACTLY what happened to me 13 years ago!!!

As with you, the CF saved my life. However, my appendix completely burst, and I was walking around with a fever of 105F, constant pain, and constant vomiting. I initially went to my CF doctor who claimed I had a viral infection. He placed me on Cipro for the next 2 weeks. The pain was mistaken for an ovarian cyst which I also had at the time...

About 1 week into the 2, my fever was unbearable. I was nearly losing consicousness (sp?). My parents rushed me to the ER where I was immediately placed on an ultrasound table.

I still remember the tech asking me, "Jenny, did you have an appendectomy?" My response, "No". It was all downhill/uphill from there...

For me, that was only Chapter 1 of the story. Because my appendix burst and nearly died, I lost 4 feet of my colon on the same side as my appendix 9 months later...I also was diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the liver. I was placed on Actigall at the age of 15.

I finally thought that it was all over 11 years later...Nope. I decided I wanted to have a child. My CF is 'good'. Well after 2 years of trying to conceive with NO LUCK AT ALL, I saw a fertility specialist and was informed that because of my colon surgery the chance of my getting pregnant on my own is less than 1%. The clinic recommended IVF. Jake and I won't do it. PERIOD...

PRESENT: For the past couple months, I've been having so much pain, depending on where I am in my menstral cycles. Something HAD to be done. So May 28th, I'm having surgery - a laproscopy. It won't be your ordinary lap by any means because of the colon surgery I had. I'm at higher risks for something to go wrong...Still, I have NO CHOICE.

There are two good things about the whole mess, though. I will FINALLY have answers and be 'pain-free'. My new GYN doctor is going to remove as much scar tissue and adhesions as possible. They may even find endometriosis. Regardless, I will FINALLY have answers. A bonus would be increased fertility, but I'm trying to stay 'real'.

Hopefully, this will be the end of my trilogy!!!

Also, I did post my post-operative colon report on the Pregnancy and Adult Sections about 2 weeks ago. Feel free to look at it, if you want to.
