i know a guy with CF who has been skydiving several times and LOVED it. he didn't mention anything strange about trouble breathing or altitude or anything. he highly recommended it! just so you know, though, he is 21 with moderate lung problems.

have fun!

I've done it with no problems at all. The impact at the bottom if you land correctly is minimal and you land on your feet anyway, so not pressure on your chest.

I would highly suggest that he goes skydiving. I went for my 21st birthday and had a blast. I didn't have any trouble with the altitude. I think that would be a wonderful surprise for him.

Thank you all so much for your input - I really appreciate it!
He is not on supplemental 02 (thankfully!) and overall his PFTs are hanging in the mid to low 60s, but with his past history of bleeds it makes me nervous. But he is one to always live life to the fullest and just say screw CF along the way, and I don't want him to miss out on this dream because of CF.... he's already had to give up so many other dreams. Or I guess I should rephrase instead of "give up" to "change the course" of other dreams. I'm leaning towards booking it for him, but I plan to talk with his drs on Monday for final clearance. I'm so used to discussing everything with him that it's killing me to keep this idea a surprise! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Thanks again for your input.

I know this post is old but I was reading it trying to decide if I should go skydiving. I just wanted to share my experience with it!

I wanted to go skydiving, my mom called the doctor, the doctor said no because of risk of a collapsed lung or bleeding of the lungs. I thought about it and read these posts and decided I needed to do it since its something that I have always wanted to do.

It was AMAZING!! The most awesome thing ever!! No problems whatsoever! FEV1 is 50% - O2 is 93. Had no troubles breathing in the plane at 10,000 ft. After the first 15 seconds of falling you feel like you cant breathe for a second because of the speed then the parachute pops and its all good again! I am really glad I did it.

My brother (with CF) has been before and LOVED it. The health factor never even crossed it mind! He promised he'd take me for my 18th birthday.... well that didn't happen, then again for my 21st, again, no dice. I've always wanted to go and WILL someday.
I have been Scuba diving though and had no problems, it actually was a lot easier for me than most because I'm so in-tune with my body and sinuses that changing pressure was much easier for me that experienced divers, I'm able to sense and clear ear/sinus pressure with almost no thought. I did start coughing slightly when I hit about 35ft, but all I had to do was clear my breathing regulator and I was good to go!
