I've been asked to give a speech about 'what it's like to have cf' @ this CF fundraiser & I have no clue what to write. i am terrified of embarrassing myself & letting other people w/ cf down.
i've worked very hard to camouflage my disease & NOT let people know i have it & appear 'normal'. ugh. i don't want to do this but have already committed.
anyone have any ideas what to talk about in this thing?
i'm supposed to explain what cf is & then gain sympathy so we'll raise money. but i HATE appearing weak!!!! ugh. please help. thank you <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

how can someone who stands on front of a crowd and talks about there troubles in order to help others who have the same troubles possibly appear weak...

Tell them about your daily routine.

Then tell them you feel strongly about raising awareness and money for CF.

Then tell them its beacause of their donations that you are able to stand on front of them and deliver this speech.

Knock'em out.

personally i truly love speaking in front of a crowd now but was once the same as you. i got over my fear of speaking in front of a group of people by asking myself how i would view someone speaking personally about their disease etc and figured i would admire their courage and willingness to be vulnerable, and would not care two hoots if they stuffed up being nervous.
how to begin can be very difficult until you realise people prefer you to speak from your herart with vulnerable honesty other than anythingh else. you are obviously stretching yourself and wow i find that a beautiful thing, and a courageous thing that i am positive people will respect.
my tip on what to talk aboutis as follows, i think this is possibly the most perfect opening i have ever seen.

" I've been asked to give a speech about 'what it's like to have cf' @ this CF fundraiser & I have no clue what to write. i am terrified of embarrassing myself & letting other people w/ cf down.

this i believe is far better than anything i have come up with and fully intend to steal your brilliance!! you will never go wrong in front of a crowd if you speak from your core and just alllow your uniqueness to speak in its own words. i find you an inspiration, thanks!! Blacky
