cf wiki

I was just messing around on the internet and went and looked at the cf wiki. It it poorly written and is quite "generic" things like it says that life expectancy is in the 20s or 30s for most people but some live to be 40 or 50. things like that. I know its wikipedia and will probably be different somehow by the time i even have this post up but as of right now its somewhat convoluded and looks like someone who knew some about cf but didn't want to go look up specifics on it wrote it. lol it looks a bit like some of the papers i turn in at school
Will someone with some free time that can write well please go fix it?

I agree that parts of the definition could stand to be re-written, but I assume you are specifically taking issue with the following sentences:

"There is no cure for CF, and most individuals with cystic fibrosis die young: many in their 20s and 30s from lung failure. However, with the continuous introduction of many new treatments, the life expectancy of a person with CF is increasing to ages as high as 40 or 50. Lung transplantation is often necessary as CF worsens."

I actually don't see the above as all that misleading. It says MANY CFers die in their 20s/30s, which is definitely true. In fact, statistically these are still the most common years to die, by far. It goes on to say the life expectancy is increasing to ages as high as 40 or 50. If anything, this is less correct than the initial statement; while many individuals do live that long, the "official" median life-expectancy is 37 years.

Information about CF is tough to write b/c it's constantly changing, and of course the life expectancy for someone BORN today with CF might vary from the life expectancy of a current CF adult. Like I said, I don't think it would be a bad idea to update (and many people from this site would be good candidates to write a new statement, I'm sure), but I think the life expectancy information is actually pretty realistic and appropriate for the data currently available.

someone has added the part about the "official" life expectancy, it was that part and others seemed just poorly written and someone here who is well spoken, certainly not me, could really improve it if they have the time available.

I went on Wiki a few months ago maybe back in Oct or Nov of 2008 and saw it said that CFers have compromised immune systems. Having never heard this and believing it to be false I edited it out. The original author had not referenced a source either. I lost much faith in obtaining information from Wiki after reading the CF description back at that time.
