CFRD, ever had it just go away?

My husband was diagnosed with CFRD before his transplant. We had a hard time managing his blood sugar since it would always run high no matter what we did. After his double lung transplant the transplant doctors managed it all wrong and would send his blood sugar crashing to the point he was in the 30's twice. After a few months post transplant his sugars have been normal and he hasn't had to take his insulin and eats whatever he wants and his sugars never spike. Has anyone ever had their CFRD just go away? I thought once you had it you had it for good.

I know it can fluctuate sometimes, particularly when it's just starting. I've never heard of it going away like that, though. Perhaps his pancreas became unclogged somehow?

Also, perhaps with his new lungs he is getting a lot more exercise, and that is what is helping him regulate his blood sugar. That might be more likely.

How was he dx with CFRD? DId they do a glucose tolerance test? Was he having an flareups with his health at the time.

I know for me prior to my official dx of CFRD that infections & steroids spiked my sugars enough to require insulin, but once the triggers were gone my sugars returned to normal.

I am wondering if the struggle (stress will do a number on the sugars) pre tx spiked his sugars, but he wasnt an actual diabetic.

Just wondering is all!
