for me it is like clockwork. I've been diabetic since i was 15 ( almost 29 years now) insulin dependent.
I kind of got myself into a routine of checking my blood sugars first thing in the morning when i wake up, take my insulin , then eat. I probably check my blood sugars about 8 times in a day, sometimes more. I also make sure it is the last thing i do before i go to sleep at night so i dont have any surprise lows during the night. I always check my blood sugar before i eat a meal or snack so i can see just how much i can have. Once you start making taking shots and checking blood sugar levels a routine its hard not to remember to do it. I always carry my blood glucose meter with me in my purse everywhere i go. I sometimes carry insulin , a syringe and alcohol wipes if i am going to be out for a few hours and know i wont be home by dinner time. That way if i need extra insulin i have it with me.
Try to get yourself into some sort of routine and it will be a lot harder to slack off , also at some point it becomes almost as routine as brushing your teeth.

My motivation is how I feel from my highs & low. Too high makes me SOB & very uncomfortable & lows are the usually sweating, dizzy etc.

Didnt take much to get me into it. My biggest challenge was when I changed from a standing unit dose to carb counting because it requires me to think a bit more & sometimes I just dont want to LOL!

My blood sugars are terrible if I don't eat right and exercise. But if I do, I barely have to worry about them. I think most people overlook just how helpful intense exercise and a high fiber diet is.
