Changing our order of medications

I would do what your respiratory therapist recommends for his age group. My daughter is almost 13 years old, and also uses the inhaler form of albuterol not the nebulized solution. She must use that before she starts the vest, because she inhales and holds it for as long as possible. If she used it with the vest it would push the albuterol right out.

There's nothing wrong with doing the Vest while you're doing Albuterol and Pulmozyme. The only thing you DON'T do the Vest with is an inhaled antibiotic.

I've been using the Vest for almost 10 years or so, and my center recommends using the Vest while doing nebs. Honestly there's just not enough hours in the day if you had to do it all separately!

Yes, you absolutely can do nebs with the vest. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Inhaling the mist while vesting can make it more productive, actually... with the exception of inhaled abx of course. Those must be done afterward.

Emily does albuterol first, followed by either Pulmozyme *or* hypertonic saline, and Pulmicort last. For vest we do 6, 8, 9, 18 and 19hz with a starting pressure of 8 that gradually decreases (Minnesota protocol) with the nebs throughout. It's a 30min vest session, but it takes 45-60min to complete due to all the huffing, coughing, and nebs taking a little longer to complete when we are doing HTS.
