Chest Discomfort

Another possibility is costochondritis. It is essentially inflamation of the rib cage(tendons). I have this in my sternum(center of my chest) and it is generally a dull ache but it can get a little more intense when I cough hard. I take 800mg of ibuprofen every morning to help with the pain. I have had this for about 10yrs now and while it can be a nuisance it hasn't created any other problems(at least that I am aware of).

i think ive deduced it was from weightlifting. must've bounced the bar or strained a muscle. if it doesn't go away within the next few days ill call my doctor, but it's only been 2 days.

I think you're probably right about where it came from. I tore a muscle in my left chest area from coughing too much and too hard like a year ago. Sounds like a similar situation.
