Chest Pain and Pain Management

Hello,
First time 'poster' and new member the site. I have really enjoyed being connected and communicating with all of you. Its kind of amazing how almost all of the posts I read, seem to describe me and my questions......a cool feeling of support.

Which brings me to my question. I have been referred to the pain management center at the local clinic because my old pediatric CF specialist wanted to pass me off to a professional. Unfortunately, this means that the Pain Center doesn't understand CF and possible CF related pain issues.

I have struggled with chest pain for a while now and have used an array of medicines for treatment. I am wondering (and I know its kind of a personal question) about what sort of treatment others are using for episodes of severe pain. I kind of want to stay away from adding more daily meds to my regime, but I worry about the amount of short acting I will have to take ( and building up tolerance and such).

Im not asking for medical advice, just wondering if anyone is dealing with the same sort of stuff and/or if you are seeing a pain specialist. How much of the chest pain is normal for older CF'ers, and how much of it is just particular to my case.

I know that's a lot to ask, but I would appreciate any thoughts. Keep the great conversations going!

Since chest pain can be from many things I am sure there is a large array of management.

I have had "simple" pleuresy where heating pads & ibuprofen worked. I have muscular issues where only massage works. Spinal pain where chiropractor works.

During the worst when I had fluid on the lung I was on Percocet & Vicodin tho it only made me sleepy & didnt really take the pain away.

Otherwise if its plugs I suck it up & work through the treatment until I get it up. This alone can be very painful.

I had shoulder pain (frozen shoulder) one time where I got a cortizone injection. NEVER again will I do that!
HOLY Crap....I was paralyzed for hours from the pain of the shot. Scared the crap out of me, but that is another type of pain & management that I had.

Sorry I couldnt help much more!
