Chest Pain

Hi! New here - My daughter was diagnosed with CF last August at the age of 15. What a learing experience our family has had! Anyway, for about the last couple of months she has been experiencing quite a bit of stomach <b>and chest pain</b>. Is this <b>"normal?" </b>I don't think it's acid reflux, as she takes a daily dose of prescription brand Prilosec. Also, two months ago her enzyme dosage was upped. She isn't coughing more than usual (not a lot) and she isn't spitting up any blood. Should I be worried. The doctor didn't seem to be too concerned. I would REALLY appreciate any advice.

Hi Rebecca

I don't really have much experience with chest pain. Occasionally when I need to do an albuterol treatment my chest feels tight and some of my inhaled antibiotics make my chest feel tight also. Usually if there is an infection brewing my cough will increase and make my chest feel raw.

Stomach pain seems to be quite common with CF. Sometimes no matter what I do I can't fight off those tummy aches! A probiotic like Culturelle may help with her stomach if she is on frequent antibiotics.

If she keeps having the pain talk to the doctor again. Sometimes you have to show those doctors who is boss if you want to get an answer!

Good luck!

Is the pain there all the time?

Does it hurt to push on the area in question?

Does it feel like a stab, a burning sensation?

It could be anything from an irritant to a plug!

Even tho she is on Prilosec that doesnt mean it still isnt GERD related or even constipation.

So many things to consider so if you could give us some more feedback maybe we can steer you better!
