chest x-rays

I think I have had a chest x-ray alomst every year since I was small. I haven't had one in a few years though, as I just don't like the idea of getting x-rayed all the time...and I have been pregnant in that time and plus I just am not too compliant about stuff I don't agree with.

anyway -

what exaclty are they looking for on a chest x-ray?

My PFTS have not changed in years... if that matter at all.

Plus, i thought when I was looking at the CFF page about the accredited centers (which mine ain't) there was nothing about if patients had x-rays, only PFTS and sputum (I think). Anyway, I have a clinic apt Friday and I know they are going to bug me about my x-ray and I want to either agree because I think it's important (that's what you guys might tell me) or decline because I know why it's not...kwim?

do tell.

Ry got them. It helps you visualize where the problem areas are, exactly, and get a better idea of lobes that might become a pain in the keester later.

Ry liked to visualize it, probably partially so he would know he wasn't crazy lol. But I imagine if you decline, worlds will not crumble.

if i'm having a problem, i'll get an x-ray.

otherwise, as you said, they used to do them annualy but they haven't recently. probably because they just tell my doc that I have CF. "yup, yup, this x-ray confirms what we've known for 25 years, she has CF!"

Hi,
They do an annual x-ray on my son and sure enough last time I could see a smudge or a clouded area over one part of his lung that wasnt there from the previous year. His pft's had also gone down a little too. He was just getting over a cold and the doctor said that it was inflamation or mucus. I guess it is used as a visual aide, but I think pft's are a more important measure. Sometimes I think children don't blow as hard as they can and maybe pft's might not be as accurate as an adults. I guess the x-rays just confirm it.

My gosh, I've had so many chest x-rays this last year. My doctor likes me to have an x-ray when I'm sounding bad and then after I've had a round of IVs as well. My worst spot is my upper right lob and with the x-ray we can see when it's getting worse than usual.

My daughter has not had many lung problems at all. She was on one round of oral antibiotics in the last four years when she had her yearly x-ray in October. It showed gas trappings, mucus, diaphragm pushed too low, etc. Basically, the doctor said it showed lung disease. We would have no idea that anything was going on unless we had this x-ray. The results of her x-ray started the discussion that she needed a feeding tube and a nissan fundoplication to prevent her aspirating. Also, my son had pneumonia once as an infant. The doctor couldn't hear the mucus in the lungs and they were about to send us home from the ER when it was suggested that we get an x-ray. The x-ray showed pneumonia. Now I always ask for an x-ray when my son doesn't sound good.
